TUNAK TUNAK

I'm going to a good friends wedding this weekend. Weddings usually have some classic dance songs such as the YMCA and Macarana. I'd like to contact the DJ and add Tunak Tunak to the play list. I've been practicing all week.

SPEAKERS

We've had some interesting speakers come to Queens this week. Today was Jason Moscovitz whose picture below actually doesn't look like him at all. He presented a presentation on giving good presentations. One person from the class couldn't help but ask him to sign off: "Jason Moscovitz, CBC, Kingston".

Yesterday we went to see the former (as of two months ago) CEO and President of Sun Microsystems. He was a great speaker as well. Lots of talk of how energy efficient Sun servers were. It appeals to me that a company that doesn't need to focus on the environment does.

Last weekend was a completely different experience as Paul was in town for a sister city conference. The conference was for American and Canadian cities that had sistered with Cuban ones. Mostly it was held here because it couldn't be held in the US. I've never been in a room with so many left leaning Americans before. The attitudes just didn't jive with the accents. The highlight was definitely when the former mayor of Mobile Alabama got up to auction of some articles to raise some money. This guy was about 90 years old but started into it like he was auctioning cattle.

TESTS

I've been taking some tests recently as this is what you do at school. You study prepare and then take tests.

Many people react differently to be tested but it seems to me that there are a lot of "oh man I failed that test" complaints going around. My classmates are smart people and I doubt any of them failed the test and yet before and after every test I hear the same thing.

The minimization of expectations was not what I was expecting from this class.

HOOPS

Not since 21 in Dan's driveway has basketball seen a star like this before.

I've been playing basketball with some classmates lately and its awesome! I need to learn the rules better as I keep fouling people and the ball keeps knocking my classes off (contacts here I come).

After about the third airball I decided that only layups and rebounds were for me. Even then I mostly just acted like a pick and got in peoples way.

RECORD SHOP

I walked by the record shop near my house today and it was actually open. I stopped at just one record (pictured below). I also picked up a copy of exclaim only to realise that Kingston was missing from most tour stops. The only thing coming up that I might go to is Pilate. Exclaim also let me know that there are new discs out by BTS, Calexico, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Looks like I'm giving up food this week in favour of some new CD's.

AUSTIN POWERS

It's been a couple years since the comparison has been made. The movies came out a while back, and then it was understandable, but years later I thought I'd left the resemblance behind. Then this picture was taken today and the old nickname was reborn. Apparently since the first day of classes there have been whispers of "Austin" in the hallways and alcoves. Form now on maybe I'll only wear the pervy glasses. What name would that bring on?

BLOG MARKETING

I started to do some blogging for the Queens MBAST site today. The functions are limited at this point as they would only allow me to post text, no photos. They've also asked that the site comments be moderated so it doesn't become a soapbox for raving lunatics like Dan to voice their opinions.

My largest problem right now lies with the photo. They managed to just barely not crop out the curls but I think I'd have trouble making it into an R rated movie without ID.

I went canoeing on a school sanctioned/organized trip yesterday. It was pouring most the time but was still really warm. I took the opportunity to go for a swim as well.

... and just to prove that budding MBA's can be just as evil as the real thing some of my peers went into the water and overturned others canoes.
