Finished

I wrote my last exam yesterday and have now completed my MBA. I'm in full relaxation mode now and will be until I start work in June. I'm off to Calgary next week and then I'm back for two weeks for Rachel and I to pack up the apartment. Then we're off to Greece for three weeks. I see planes, uhaul trailers and whitewashed buildings in my future.

Bill

On Tuesday I attended a "Power Within" seminar in Montreal. The first speakers were cheesy but it was inspirational none the less. Tony Robbins rounded out the afternoon before Bill came and gave a more sober talk. Afterwards I attended a private reception as Queen's was sponsoring the event. Here's a couple pictures of Bill (and I).

Boston Case Competition

I was in Boston this past week competing in a business case competition on Motorola. Pretty intense time. Schools from across the world competed and we had 24 hours to come up with a proposal. We made it past the first round and were part of the final four (MIT, Stanford, Kellogg and us). After the second presentation to the Motorola executives we ended up placing fourth and won $2,500, 1st got $25,000. Oh so close to the big money.

Boston was a pretty cool city but all I saw was the hotel and Boston University. Maybe I'll go down and check it out soon.

I finish my MBA Saturday at noon. I'm damn excited!

... second hardest

A friend of mine is on his third level of the CFA. When I saw this ad I had to laugh out loud. Such attitude from the Canadian Federation of Aromatherapists.

Take-off to the ....

Yesterday Rachel and I embraced the great white north and went cross-country skiing north of Kingston. There were lots of other skiers about but it was still a great day.

I’m into the home stretch of school right now and it feels pretty good. I’m noticeably more relaxed and have time to get into school and have a bit of a life.

I was in Vancouver a week ago and it was amazing, I can’t wait to get back there. Kingston’s been fun but Vancouver felt like home. It was great to see old friends and family as well.

Here's some pictures of a great meal I cooked for Rachel last week!

Bill & Melinda

The Global Development head of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation gave us a presentation today on his work and the foundation in general.

The foundation has changed the way that philanthropy is conducted in the world. Their strategy is to touch as many people as possible with the money they dole out. They don’t invest in Latin America because the number of poor people there doesn’t lend itself to economies of scale.

Strategy consultants are hired to determine the most efficient use of Bill and Melinda’s money and the foundation has based its strategy on the areas where other organizations haven’t gone.

Inspiring!

DECEMBER 25, 2006

It was a mild Christmas this year on Clear Lake. So mild in fact that not even a soupconne of ice was present on the surface of the lake. So the Topping boys and I decided to go for a Christmas swim.

The Turkey came later ...
